Does your CPD need an MOT?

When you’ve worked hard to create a CPD, it’s easy to let it languish in your marketing toolkit. If it’s been a while since you last looked at the content, it might be time to dust it off and evaluate whether it needs a refresh.

We recommend that marketers review and update CPD presentations every two years. Audiences are increasingly savvy about how content is presented and our expectations – as well as the industry – rapidly evolve.

Sector updates

Check that any legislation mentioned is still up to date, especially with hot topics such as green construction. Watch out for new studies that supersede or even discredit any research you’ve cited. Get your sales team involved as they can bring recent news and insights from the sector.

Your CPD presenters can also be a source of vital feedback on what works and what doesn’t in the current CPD. During the presentation itself, they interact (virtually or in person) with the audience and field questions. Encourage them to be honest: it’s in everyone’s best interests to get it right.

If you can, ask for feedback from a typical audience member. You want to be confident that your content is worth an hour of a busy specifier’s time. If you’re approaching an architect or designer for a quote as part of a CPD refresh, ask if they’ll provide some feedback on the content too.

Marketing matters

Analyse your marketing activities and bookings to ensure you’re promoting your CPD in the right places to the right crowd. It’s worth reviewing the title to ensure it’s succinct and clearly describes the CPD. Check your marketing assets – logo, imagery, company info – are all up to date.

Consider your follow-up activities as an essential part of the CPD creation process; this can be as simple as sending an email with a short, visual summary of the presentation.

It can be hard to see a CPD with fresh eyes if you created the original. It’s even more of a challenge when your inbox is overflowing. The CPD experts here at Edify Content Studio can review your CPD and give you an impartial and constructive assessment. We’ll highlight its strengths and provide simple yet effective actions you can implement to make your CPDs work even harder. We’ll also talk to your CPD presenters to find out what they really think, and share everything with you in a one-hour online call.
